My dad turned 75 last Saturday, so to celebrate this big happy milestone, our family spent the weekend at my sister’s new home in Greenport, NY. I’m still playing around with the type of content I share here, but if you’ll indulge me, I’d love to share some personal weekend highlights with you.
We drove out east on Friday morning and luckily hit no real traffic. We did make a stop at the Long Island Welcome Center, which was so cute! They sold products from local NY vendors like The Hampton Grocer, Long Island Chocolate, and You Love Fruit fruit snacks. We also enjoyed their homemade white bean and escarole soup, which was the perfect light lunch to cut up the 2.5 hour drive. More rest stops should sell soup!
How cozy is my sister’s new home? Here are photos of her bedroom and the main kitchen downstairs. The white kitchen made me feel like I was in a romantic comedy and the whole house was so warm and inviting. My sister and her husband bought this house from the 1890s and have spent the last two years painstakingly renovating it. I’ve followed along on their journey and am so proud of them for working so hard to make it all happen. And of course, we’re so lucky that they generously share and open up their home to us.
“The Boys”, as we affectionately call Raffi and his four cousins, are ages 8, almost 5, 4, 3, and 2.5 years old. When they see each other, it makes my heart burst with joy. My sisters and I have always been close so to see our kids grow up with each other is very special. On Saturday night after dinner, we did a “movie night,” complete with matching pajamas and buckets of popcorn. They definitely spent more time arguing over what to watch (Paw Patrol vs Fuller House) but it was still very cute to see them goofing around, wrestling, and just being silly together.
My sisters Claudia and Karina are truly by bffs. We’re each three years apart and though we have very different personalities, we have many of the same interests and tastes. They both live nearby but we somehow don’t get to see each other as often as we’d like because of different kid and work schedules, so spending quality time with them is really a gift. Cheesy, but true.
My dad was the real star of the weekend. Celebrating 75 years of life is a big deal and we tried to honor him as best we could. Claudia printed a ton of family photos in advance and while my mom and him were visiting a nearby vineyard, Karina and I decorated the walls with photo collages of all of us growing up. It was sweet to see the memories throughout the years and I know he was touched when he saw them all.
On Saturday night, my brother-in-law, Alex, grilled the most delicious steak and veggies and I made my fall salad with lemon tahini dressing as a side. Delicata squash season is my fave.
To wrap up the perfect weekend, we stopped at Claudio’s on the waterfront before heading back to the city. If you’re ever out there, I highly recommend their buttery salty pretzels. All in all, such a sweet ending to a lovely family weekend!
Thanks for reading. I’m still playing around with this blog and experimenting with what feels right to share, so I hope you enjoyed this personal glimpse into my family life. I appreciate you being here!
